Something Different Book Club

  • Rogers Park Branch - Chicago Public Library (map)

"Are you interested in discussing real issues? Would you like to engage with voices that are too often silenced? Are you sick of reading the same plot over and over again?

Please join us for a new monthly book discussion group at Rogers Park Library, focusing on books that showcase "Something Different." We will read and discuss works by and about underrepresented groups in literature and life. These groups may include: women, people of color, trans folk, people with mental/physical disabilities and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.

This month's selection is Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay, a collection of essays spanning politics, criticism and feminism from one of the most-watched young cultural observers of her generation. Bad Feminist is a sharp, funny, and spot-on look at the ways in which the culture we consume becomes who we are, and an inspiring call-to-arms of all the ways we still need to do better.

Copies are available at most library branches, and are also available at Rogers Park Branch - just ask at the front desk. Please feel free to come to the discussion even if you have not read the entire book.

*Something Different Book Club is a Safe Space for folks of all genders, sexualities, ethnic backgrounds, faiths and abilities.*"
